As a child, you were able to decide if you wanted to go outside or not, as a teen, you were able to decide if you wanted to play sports or not, and as an adult, you have so many difficult decisions to make, that you have to come up with several ways to approach them. Personally, I feel that there is a certain way to make different decisions. Although I may feel that way, I also have a main process I use to assist me in resolving my decisions. In order for me for me to resolve my decisions first I have to pray to my higher power for assistance, this truly helps me with all. Next, I have to evaluate the entire situation so that I may choose the best decision for me. Finally, I make my decision and hope for the best.

I have always been taught to keep God first in everything I do. This even includes small everyday decisions. I utilize my relationship with Him daily to keep me level-headed, although some people may not agree with my choice; I feel that everyone has their own religious backgrounds. Some decisions happen so quickly in life that it may not seem like there is time to play or ask for help, but it is all in your heart. Praying also helps me with evaluating my situation.

“You have to look beyond today and tomorrow, Lil’ Sis, you have to look deeper into this situation,” is something my big brother always told me. I use his advice on helping me making decisions because to every action you take, there is always a reaction, and for every cause there is an effect to it. Individuals have to think about what will happen if they make a certain decision and what are the effects to this decision. It may not seem like some decisions are that extreme and some may not be, but for those that are, this is very useful. This is the most critical and analytical part of my decision making process because after this, it is my decision.

“Is that your final answer?” Every time I hear that question it tickles me because that is how I end my decision. I always ask myself that because if all else fails, I fall on instincts. Usually, I will make some right decisions so my process works for me.

If you are having a hard time making decisions, right decisions, try my process, it may work for you. Just remember: first pray to your God, evaluate the situation, and then finally make your decision. This may help when you hear, “Is that your final answer?”

I agree some what with Socrates

Prompt: Perception

To perceive something, it takes sometimes time and studying for some people but to others, just one look is fine for them. From several personal experiences, I agree some what with Socrates. Although I some what agree with Socrates, Gorgias’ statement on objective perception being impossible is understanding because with people constantly twisting information, it is going to become harder to reach the truth.

I agree with Socrates because after dealing with so many different people, I’ve learned to notice the different mind levels, actions and reactions, and altogether different personalities between children and adults, men and women, and age eighteen to twenty-five and thirty to fifty. Also after being a participant of the Law Academy in high school, I learned a lot about long term and short term memory. Generally, most people can not always remember exactly what happened two days ago but they can easily recall what happened two years ago.

In the court system, during interrogation, the eye witness or victim may have a hard time recalling the events due to anxiety, being afraid, or even due to some type of illness. For example, in class, our teacher played a game “Pass the Word”. The object of this game was to prove that people twist information with out realizing it. He passed a statement around the room but when the last student repeated the statement back to him, it was incorrect. Although the statement was twisted among the students, everyone seemed to grasp the general idea.

Also another example, an eye witness to a crime was being interrogated right after the crime but was unable to turn in a statement due to memory lost. A few weeks later, the same eye witness was able to give a written statement and participate in a criminal line up. The criminal was number five. The eye witness chose him out of everyone.

On a personal level, I feel that a person’s environment plays huge parts in weather they can perceive things as quickly as others and also weather they are able to perceive objectively. Sometimes, due to major events within a person’s life, time can alter things like their ability to see or some physical distorting. Time also can alter their mind levels causing them to be able to perceive faster or slower. Children can not perceive some things like an adult can just like adults are not always able to recall things as quickly as a child. There is a time for everything and many times, it’s not the person’s time to perceive what ever it is they are trying to perceive.

All of this can tie in with perception because many of the same factors that disable a person of recalling events they have seen or heard are the same ones that disable a person to perceive objectively. After my many experiences, I feel that perception- to understand is something that varies within person weather it is objective or subjective, right or wrong, or anything else. Although it is highly unlikely, objective perception is possible.

All About Me

My name is Nyisha Henry. This is my third semester at Macon State. Right now, my major is Information Technology but along the way it could change. I am working on my upcomming poetry book, due the summer of next year. I love to write because I can define my values and many situations.
